If I think about my art, I would have to say my first thought is of my mother.
She gave me a gift, what I call, “my insightful instinct” and promoted me to use it.
I have learned to trust it, design by it and depend on it. I believe all my artwork
reflects it. My instinct let’s me go beyond familiar boundaries to find inspiration
or to allow it to find me.
For more than 35 years, I have drawn the human form inspired and compelled to
expose their message. Since I can remember, I have had an unexplained fascination
with the Renaissance artists and artwork. I was mesmerized by the passion behind
every drawn figure and painted portrait. I wanted to draw passion like those artists.
I again must thank my mother who fed my addiction through my youth by taking me
to weekly figure drawing classes, supporting me through art school and letting me
drag our family to museum after museum of which I begged and pleaded. Today
as I paint, the first thing I look for is the essence and passion of every person and
every place. Without it, the painting seems unfinished.
