Painting on glass is the most exciting technique that I have ever experienced, which is why I continue to explore it's possiblities. My monotypes are created by a printmaking method in which I paint, draw and remove paint on an acrylic glass plate. I then transfer the image onto a sheet of a 100% cotton paper by pressing the two together using an etching press. The inks used are oil based or water based. Each print is a one-of-a-kind because most of the ink is removed during the initial pressing. This technique has a sense of mystery and wonder at the moment before printing the plate because I must work in reverse and I do not paint directly onto the paper. The unique line quality is also a distinct characteristic to this technique. I am fascinated with the lines, I can stare at them all day.
